‘National Telecom M2M Roadmap’ was released today by Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad, Hon’ble Minister of Communication & IT in the conference on‘ Smart Infrastructure: Supporting Policies and Regulations for M2M Communications’. Anticipating the promising potential of M2M, DoT has come up with this Roadmap which will serve as a single reference document for all the M2M stake holders in India. It is first of its kind initiative taken by any government in the world. This roadmap is aimed to provide guidance to all the stakeholders to nurture M2M Communications.
Speaking on the occasion, Sh. Ravi Shankar Prasad said that M2M Communications will impact every aspect of life of common man and results in substantial and tangible social and economic benefits to consumers, businesses, citizens and government. He said at a time when the country is focusing on digital empowerment, it has to be ensured that it plays a lead role in the implementation of M2M technologies. He said all concerned agencies should join hands to ensure that all needed infrastructure is put in place at the earliest.
He said standardization of M2M roadmap becomes more important, as the country heads towards setting up 100 smart cities and introducing digitalization all over the country. He opined that the adoption of M2M based applications in areas like healthcare, tele-education, smart grid, smart building, smart city etc. have enormous potential to boost the socio-economic development of the country. He emphasized that M2M is going to be the key enabler for the Government vision of Digital India, Make in India and proposed Smart cities in India.
Sh. Rakesh Garg, Secretary (T) in his address stressed that for success of M2M based smart infrastructure, synergy and close coordination amongst various sectors is crucial i.e. Telecom, IT, Road, Health, Transport, Power, Agriculture etc since development in one field should be aligned with requirement of its user field. For this he proposed the constitution of an Apex body to address inter-ministerial coordination requirements.
Sh. Pradeep Kumar Sinha, Secretary Power, Sh. Vijay Chhibber, Secretary MoRTH and Sh. R S Sharma, Secretary DeitY in their keynote addresses emphasized that success of Smart Vehicle, Smart Grid, Smart Cities and related IoT applications will ride on robust communication infrastructure. The requisite communication policies and coordination will be more meaningful with M2M initiatives of DoT.
Sh. S.S. Sirohi, Member (Technology), highlighted the efforts of TEC to bring out reports with the objective of achieving interoperability among devices/ network/ applications and harmonization of Indian standards with global standards, on four sectors namely Automotive, Health, Power, Safety and Surveillance and one on M2M Gateway and Architecture. All five were also released in the function.
Reiterating the importance of IPv6 adoption ‘Compendium on IPv6 Based Solutions/ Architecture/ Case Studies for Different Industry Verticals’ was released today which will further help Industry to plan IPv6 migration as well as planning IPv6 based networks for M2M rollout. India has one of the eight world class IPv6 test lab setup in TEC. For the first successful product testing,’IPv6 Ready Logo Certificate’ was awarded to C-DOT.
In the conference, there were sessions on M2M base applications for Different Industry Verticals, M2M Regulation and Policy Requirement, Development of Open & Scalable M2M Ecosystem, Way forward where various aspects to develop complete M2M eco-system in India were discussed.
